Occupied Lives at Tha Tang Organic Farm
On 12th – 15th OCT 2012, thirty-six young farmers and activists from 10 countries gathered together at Tha Tang Organic Farm, Sekong Province in Laos and raised their voices on occupied lives. During the 4-days workshop, young farmers, many of them first time out of their countries, had a chance to exchange their visions and worked together with other like-minded fellows on issues such as happiness and wellbeing, visioning community, roles of young farmers, common language in diversified farmings. As a result, the young farmers has drafted “Occupy Your Life” Manifesto to convey their messages on taking back the roles of food production and health care as well as to inspire and encourage small-scaled diversified farmings worldwide.
After the gathering at Tha Tang Farm, the young farmers went to Vientiane to participate at the 9th Asia-Europe People’s Forum. They organized a small workshop on “Occupy Your Life: Young Farmers’ Perspective on the Future of Agriculture” at D’ Rose Hotel on 18th OCT 2012. In the workshop, the young farmers had a chance to exchange and discuss their ideas with other participants from various backgrounds who attended the workshop.
The main outcomes derived from this event are;
A Network of young diversified farmers and activists “Mekong Youth Alliance for Organic Agriculture and Agroecology”
Common vision of young diversified farmers; “Occupy Your Life” Manifesto, which was presenting and distributing during AEPF. The issue of young farmers was also included in the AEPF9’s final declaration.
“Immeasurable” inspirations, friendships and memories that young farmers take with them homes.
