Visit Nobel laureate Dr. Joseph E. Stiglitz
The visit of Nobel Laureate in Economics Joseph E. Stiglitz was organized by the School for Wellbeing Studies and Research and included presentations and debate with the business community together with the Nation Multimedia Group; a public presentation at the UN conference center and a public dialogue with Thai economists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the early 1970’s the 4th King of Bhutan, H.M. Jigme Singye Wangchuck, stated ‘Gross National Happiness is more important than Gross National Product’ but it was not until 2009 that the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Commission Measuring Economic Performance and Social Progress provided academic confirmation of the groundbreaking intuition of the King.
